Democratic leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives have condemned a raid on Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home as “deeply disturbing” and accused the Trump administration of a “rogue abuse of power” just weeks ahead of November’s midterm elections.

Let’s see if they do anything besides strong words and maybe some paddles.

This is a pretty serious escalation. We all knew it was coming, so I’m not going to act surprised. But let’s all take a moment just to acknowledge how serious it is that a sitting president just had his DOJ (or DHS, whoever it was) raid the home of a political opponent without probable cause, any evidence or reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing, and presumably no warrant.

Like we knew he was on a hitler kick, but this now so close to the midterms is just… well, very hitler of him…

It’s weird to me that so many people are still convinced there is a peaceful way out of fascism. There can be no peace while conservatives continue to infest our nation. They need to be completely removed before we will find any amount of peace. Conservatives are truly, deeply evil and cannot stop harming everyone around them. They must be forcibly stopped or they will only get worse.

    • This won’t stop me from voting in the upcoming midterms, but I’m of the opinion that the last presidential election was The Last Election, in that I mean the last one that could have mattered. People refused to vote against genocide at home because of genocide on the other side of the world (or so they said).

So yeah. Forceful removal of fascists is the only way forward left.

Then you don’t understand what is actually happening. Just getting trump out of office is not enough. There need to be expedited, quick trials and immediate punishment for the pedophilia and treason that has been livestreamed in 4k for the last decade.

Viktor orban is free. There are some more show trials but even his rival that “defeated” him says “the courts must decide”.

What do you think will happen in our country?

Everyone has been primed for quick and happy acceptance of fascism. We were given an illusion of choice. Descend into techno fascism through physical violence, or administrative means. Either way, the people behind all of the issues here will not face time and are already funding Democrats (Thiel).

People will be so happy that trump is gone and they won’t even remember about flock cameras, employers monitoring your own body heat and emf frequencies to “know your mood”. We will not get any money back from the tarriffs. Prices will not go back down to anything substantial. They will be so distracted by the judge Judy like committee hearings and “special prosecutors” that will be “so close” to convicting anyone meaningful

        And you will all cheer

Only because of the EU actually punishing Orban for democratic backsliding by withholding funds. It is also hard to do authoritarian things when part of a confederated organisation. Meanwhile, the US has a more centralised government and a single culture, so it regulatory capture is much easier for any authoritarian figures to sneak in.

        Arbitrary detentions? Already happening

Shooting protesters in the street? Already happening.

        Concentration camps? Already happening.

Tracking citizens movements and keeping records of political “enemies”? Already happening.

The only thing that isn’t happening is people rising up en masse against it.

It’s weird to me that so many people are still convinced there is a peaceful way out of fascism.

It’s not a matter of conviction, it’s a matter of impotence. Fascists are mobilized, organized, and well-financed by their oligarch allies. Antifascists are untrained, scattered, and overwhelmingly working class or outright lumpen.

Conservatives are truly, deeply evil and cannot stop harming everyone around them. They must be forcibly stopped or they will only get worse.

Well, you seem like you’ve got the Will to Power. Get out there and get to it, then. Wave your sword around. Slay the dragon. It should be easy.

I may not be able to slay the entire dragon, but I can encourage my fellow antifascists to act.

Just because we act alone, it doesn’t mean we are alone in the fight. Whether a resistor’s taste is subtly lethal or violently overt, there are countless ways to resist fascism locally.

Conservatives are a wide-spread infestation. They are relatives. They are colleagues. They are neighbors. Be discrete. Be merciless. Be prolific.

They all chase incentives. They are only in congress in the first place as a career anyway. Idk if any democratic candidate has even been floating the idea of overturning citizens united recently, but until they become the party of money out of politics having made bribing politicians illegal and having re-nationalized the federal reserve the US currency system back from the parasite class, I think they both look nearly the exact same shade of purple to me. Once buying children from over seas is off the table and no epsteen class sociopaths are ever platformed again, politics may become a tool for protecting and producing avenues for upward mobility for the lowest quality of life individuals, families, and communities, both “domestic” and “foreign”

Change takes time and we are moving in the wrong direction. You’re giving the “both sides” argument and I don’t buy it for a fucking minute. We didn’t have these aggressive ICE tactics under any Dem, we didn’t have wildly reduced NIH, medicare, and medicaid funding under Dems (including food inspection changes that are working against us). We didn’t have “woke is the cause of all things evil” under Dems (and DEI includes protections for disabled people). We didn’t have environmental regulations wiped out under Dems. We didn’t have our election integrity threatened under Dems… I could go on. All these things are incredibly important but because you buy into the “both sides” argument all you can see are the extremes.

what we think doesn’t matter, only what we do. And one does not have to “buy” ideas, they are free to pick up and set down at any time, contrary to popular beliefs. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I don’t disagree with you. I simply fear that generations will pass with people still continuing to be sold to leaders of whatever system is in control before we can ever work meaningfully towards dismantling trafficking pipelines, if that could ever even be possible here.

I’m not advocating against voting for democrats, in case you were inserting that into your understanding of my position. I think if you can vote, you should vote for them this election, especially if you live in a christian nationalist community, since that would likely suggest that you would be directly contributing toward a more workable [pun found] position for the working (non-parasite) class in the future. That doesn’t have to mean that I expect any restorative policies out of the Democrats at the federal level any time soon. We can create new parties systems, it’s not illegal or impossible

When then midterm is done, if the democrats win, the head of DHS (Markwayne Mullin) should be hauled in for contempt of Congress, then thrown in jail. Every agent involved should be put on a list of people unemployable in America and their contacts all investigated and any hint of foreign influence should turn this into treason and conspiracy charges for every last one. It seems we’re paying for a firing squad and money is tight, so let’s get our value out.

I get that this won’t happen, but if Democrats need to compromise, let’s start negotiations from this position.

Sorry, Omar, but when you steal millions of dollars from the taxpayers, you may actually have to put up with the indignity of search, seizure, arrest, and sometimes, just sometimes, a prison sentence.

Omar was financially challenged before “serving” in congress, now she’s a multi-millionaire, she’s one of them. Search “Omar Minnesota Somalia welfare fraud” for more details on this corruption; others are sitting in prison right now for their part in it. It’s Omar’s turn (hopefully, but I won’t hold my breath).

She’s everything wrong with our politicians today, greedy and corrupt.

If you cheer Republican raids and arrests, and booooo Democratic raids and arrests (or vice versa), you now understand why your fellow voters are abandoning your major parties in droves. This is why Ds and Rs are only 29% of registered voters each.

The other 42% of independent Americans want ALL corrupt politicians out of office and serving time, regardless of party affiliation.

I’m happy that Republicans are cleaning the house (regardless of their true motivation, because we all know it’s not ‘justice’), and I hope and pray that Democrats do the exact same thing to Republicans when they take the majority.

Make politicians afraid to steal again.

You kind of seem like you are at least trying to be knowledgeable so I won’t hold it against you but please apply a bit of common sense to the situation. A gotcha article written by a conspiracy theorist is not evidence of a crime. Common sense would tell you if there was evidence, she would be arrested. Republicans want nothing more than to parade a Muslim in the streets as a traitor. If they could they would. Clearly there is no evidence to substantiate this search which is why they used an article 2 judge that essentially approves whatever the president tells them to instead of an actual judge. I am not saying she’s innocent but in America we should strive to give people due process instead of the shitshow we have going on right now.

Yeah that would be another major escalation in the ongoing constitutional crisis. It’s one more bizarre take from Republicans. They would have lost their minds if Obama went after a member of congress. I will say this for the current administration, though, they’re doing a fantastic job of highlighting improvement opportunities for the Constitution. If the country miraculously pulls itself together enough to pass any kind of amendments at all, but especially one limiting executive powers, they should definitely be named after the person whose kind of behavior it’s trying to limit. I know they’re just numbered. I mean a name like “The Bill of Rights,” which describes the first ten amendments.

Get this, they’re already trying to create justification: Donald Trump has repeated the false claim that Ilhan Omar married her own brother to abuse the greencard system, despite the fact that the rumour started on a blog in 2016 from some random guy in Minnesota and has never resulted in any evidence.

I feel like if there was a shred of plausibility to this outrageous and infantile claim that it wouldn’t take over 10 years to find anything even when the admin deeply despised her for 6 of those years.

According to Omar, she and her family fled the Somalian civil war in 1991. They moved to the U.S. in 1995 after residing for four years in a Kenyan refugee camp. Omar’s mother had died, so her father and grandfather raised her and her siblings. In 2018, Omar showed a reporter from the Minneapolis Star Tribune photos of documents from her family’s entry into the U.S. after fleeing the civil war. She did not provide the reporter with copies of these papers but showed that they listed her father and showed her as the youngest of seven children. There was no one named Ahmed Nur Said Elmi listed in the documents.

We previously noted that Omar and her siblings all arrived in U.S. with refugee statuses. Omar was a minor when she became a naturalized U.S. citizen. How one sibling could end up with a completely different immigration status from the others remains unexplained by the claims.
