This is true for kernel updates in Linux as well.
Whenever I update the kernel I will need a restart eventually because it breaks the openvpn somehow and I’ve been too lazy to figure out how to actually fix it.
Still my Linux machine doesn’t nag me about restarts. The DE just pops up a notification one time saying it’s recommended.

Windows was sold that’s true and as you say the app store came with the attempt at a mobile / tablet OS.
Windows is well into the extract phase of the product. Microsoft missed the mobile boat and fewer and fewer people are buying laptops. Grandma gets by on a tablet etc. so things are just going to get worse and worse for Windows users going forward.

Google is a publicly traded company and I’m sure it doesn’t need to be said here but the incentives do not allow them to be any thing but a for profit operation.
They are not your friend. They are not moral or immoral. They might do things that you agree with but that is only tangential. They don’t support you or your political leanings. They don’t have political leanings even though they might pretend to. If they do support your cause it’s only to garner goodwill in the hopes of increasing earnings. They would change ‘their’ mind tomorrow if that made the stock go up a single cent.
Like marathons there is an entire population of people who ‘cheat’ in something that has no real consequence except to talk themselves up.
They record video what happens or who uses it after the fact is something else entirely.
