Windows 10 systems will not immediately lose all NVIDIA driver updates. The company says supported GeForce hardware will transition to quarterly security updates after October 2026. These releases will include critical security fixes and continue through October 2029.
So it’s not entirely ending yet.
I don’t see why they even care? Pretty much everything works between windows 10 and 11 without notification. it wasn’t like 98 to Vista craziness.
Security updates. But let’s see what happens when a high-profile game doesn’t work on Windows 10 Nvidia machines.
This happened before, afair. Games specifically requested newer version of the driver. And there was no workaround. At the time it was also very annoying. Because newer driver was performing much worse on some series of cards. And you practically had to choose do you want to play newer game or you want to have better experience in older game. The issue now though, will they really tolerate llm/advertisement/lagfest/vibecoded mess that is win11, or else. The answer for the most part ofc they will, most of the base is the old dog that doesn’t learn new tricks, which is soo damn annoying. But at least maybe some % of skilled users that already have some experience would be pushed to drop win.
Yeah for sure. I will either install a greatly modded Win11 or go ahead to Bazzite. It will annoy me that not all games will work, but most will.
Good thing I went AMD on my LTSC build.
Im still on win10. How difficult is it to swap over to win10 ltsc?
Buy a key, download the ISO from the usual places, and install. Like doing a clean install of Windows 10. There are some desktop apps that it doesn’t have but you can download them and just use them or you can use third party apps. Most of the telemetry and adware isn’t installed and it actually costs less the ESU and will get updates until 2028/2032 for the IoT (Internet of Things) edition which uses the same key.
Thank you for the reply!!!
I haven’t done a fresh install of Win10 in… a long time. I’ll have to backup my data obviously. And I’ll have to download and re-install all of my applications and programs, right? I have some that… I 🏴☠️ and the sources may not be available any longer.
If security updates for Win10 LTSC end this coming January would it be advisable to just wait on Win10 until then? I’m guessing after that point I would have no choice than to “upgrade” to Win11 🤮
you can modify ent to install as an upgrade, even from 7 or 8. iirc, it’s just a text file inside a wim in the iso.
full re install
Awww man.
This is some bullshit. 😡
I have Win11 on a partition, and when heavily neutered, it feels the same as 10 to me.
Let’s see what AMD does, might finally be time to switch. My 3060 is doing pretty well though.
Its a questionable time, as GPU prices are outrageous now, unfortunately.
FYI, RTX 3060’s are still supported on Linux
