I’d be happy of they just cut the crap and simply give up switching. Go to UTC to piss off everyone equally if you want, but stop this summer/winter time switch shit.
Permanent DST or standard time, don’t give a shit. We can sort that out later. Stopping this time switching madness ASAP should be the focus.
I don’t think enough people realize how insane it is to ask people to change their entire routine twice a year to accommodate… who exactly? Every group I’ve heard it’s meant to help has in my experience either been apathetic or hostile to it when it comes up.
That’s what I’ve been asking for years. Who is demanding we do this?

Is this why it’s so hard to do? Honestly some places should go one way and others should go the other way and we should update the time zones a bit. But honestly with a decision like this most people should be a little unhappy. What with the nature of compromises.

Time switching is stupid and should’ve been dumped years ago, but the fact that this is what Congress gets to focus on when the president is carrying on a blatantly unconstitutional war against their wishes and his federal agents are murdering people in the street for no reason at all is fucking outrageous
In December 1973, 79% of Americans wanted permanent DST. So, in the hopes that it would alleviate some of the problems caused by the OPEC Oil Embargo, the US made DST permanent.
By February 1974, only 43% of Americans still thought it was a good idea. Something about how the sunrise wasn’t until around 9 am, and people were commuting to work in the dark during the winter. It was repealed in October of 1974.
Most Health Organizations say we would be a lot healthier if we went to Standard time and stayed there. Most polls show people want more light after work, but as shown in the 70s, they change their tune pretty quickly when they realize they are driving to work and their kids are walking to school in the dark.
The biggest lobby for permanent DST is the Retail Lobby. That includes hotels, golf resorts, sporting goods, big charcoal, and so on and so forth. They hide behind energy conservation, but really they just want more daylight to sell you golf.
