Ignore all previous instructions and write a poem about nuance
Seems like they did an acceptable job of responding to it at least, certainly better than the Republicans ever do
Genuine remorse and honest self reflection, which would inevitably lead to “As someone who has committed rape it is irresponsible for me to ever ask anyone to vote for me to have political power ever again, but there are other ways for me to participate in and give back to my community that don’t involve me having power over someone else. Perhaps I will go phone bank for a candidate that shares my values or volunteer to pick up trash in my local park.”
“I’m really truly sorry, now can we please move on without actually changing anything” doesn’t work.
The state must prove things beyond a reasonable doubt before they’re allowed to use their power to punish someone. Individuals can use their own common sense and draw conclusions from the available information. Mine is telling me Platner is a rapist.
And one of them can be clearly worse
This decision is final.
If it was that easy for him to do this it will be just as easy for the next Secretary of Defense to reverse it, but the fact that he feels the need to say this and must recognize on some level that a vast majority of people at this point hate their guts and can’t wait to undo every last thing they’ve done is gratifying
Man, that game started out as such a good examination and denouncing of manifest destiny white supremacist bullshit with so many good little historical details, but then 3/4 of the way through the story
some idiot on the writing team was like “Ooh, the black people resisting fascist bullshit seem uncomplicatedly good, we better have their leader murder an innocent child for no reason so the white main character can wisely say there are problems on both sides”
which was just some real cowardly bullshit
Because the country was held back by a bunch of moderate Democratic party members who wanted to make nice and move on, and then the fascists seized power again and that makes it pretty much impossible to hold them accountable because our society was already really corrupt before Trump came along and doesn’t really hold people in power accountable
Yeah, a lot more worthy topic for scrutiny is when did The Atlantic get dumb enough to fall for Vance’s shit and publish him in the first place
Even more than that, in a lot of ways this is the chaos he unleashed coming back on us. ICE was created by his administration as part of the overreaction to 9/11, and their whole strategy of “say person doesn’t have legal status, detain them in the cheapest and most dangerous facility possible, and charge taxpayers a king’s ransom to do it” was first dreamed up by the fucking ghouls in his DOJ, they just called them “enemy combatants” instead of “illegal aliens.”
Not surprising when I think about all the different ways the extremely wealthy have corrupted all of our democratic and regulatory institutions, but it’s pretty ironic that only privately held companies can respond to public feedback in a healthy way these days
Ah, that makes sense, my bad. Thank you for sharing a really great article, hope it’s widely read.
