EA is just a big bundle that they were able to buy at all with a huge pile of cash. Going around the globe, chasing studios that do this and that is a ton of work and takes forever and is not really a good strategy.

Ja, die könnten auch pro-aktiv ihre Finanzen veröffentlichen, da stehen die aber drüber, das ist nicht notwendig. Wieviel kriegt der Leiter der Einrichtung? Wieviel kriegt der/die Künstler*in für das Kunstwerk das man nicht mag? Darüber redet man nicht. Kultur ist auch wichtig.

Der Verwandtschaft wurde gerade das Wohngeld gekürzt? Kann man nichts machen. Aber das Projekt das vom Bürgermeister einmal bei der Eröffnung mit dem Arsch angeguckt wird und danach 10 Jahre vergammelt um dann entsorgt zu werden, das kriegt 20.000€ und Sektempfang.

Die Kultureinrichtungen reagieren oft mit einer Art Wagenburgmentalität: Sie schließen sich enger zusammen und verteidigen umso entschlossener die bestehenden – liberalen, demokratischen, rechtsstaatlichen – Verhältnisse.

… und ihre eigene Intransparenz und Vetternwirtschaft.

Ich finde es unglaublich verlogen zu behaupten das “Kultureinrichtungen” demokratische Verhältnisse verteidigen, wenn sie die Möglichkeit ablehnen das man die Leiter und Mitwirkenden in diesen Einrichtungen abwählt.

Hypothetisch: Student im 5. Semester. Gar kein Einkommen. Nach dem 3. Prüfungsversuch darfst du nicht weiterstudieren. Gar nicht. Überhaupt nicht. Das war dein Plan für den Leben und Beruf und du hast seit fast drei Jahren an der Uni und alle Schulkurse darauf ausgewählt das du mal… Chemie studierst? Tja.

Viel Erfolg bei der mündlichen Prüfung, mit dem gleichen Inhalt den du schon 2x schriftlich nicht geschafft hast! ☺️ Achso, und ist nur eine von 5-6 Prüfungen die du nach Bäfog/Vollzeitstudium/Regelstudienzeit Regeln schaffen musst.

Achso und wir brauchen gesellschaftlich das die Studenten bitte Startups gründen, weil der Rest der Industrie gerade weg globalisiert wurde. Und Sozialabgaben. Fachkräftemangel, übrigends. Alle suchen händeringed, wenn du nichts findest ist es deine Schuld. Japp. Du bist nur zu faul.

Nochmal zwei Stufen schlimmer in der Medizin, wo Leute hingehen die eigentlich empatisch und fürsorgend sein wollen und damit emotional ausgebeutet werden das wenn sie hinschmeissen, das teilweise lebensgefährlich für Patienten ist. Oder die Ausbildung von Ärzten mit ihren Nachtschichten im Krankenhaus die nicht vollständig als Arbeitszeit gezählt werden und deswegen um das Arbeitszeitgesetz drum rum kommen.

Der einzige Trost ist das wir nicht allein im Beruf, oder der Altersgruppe sind. Oder auch nur in Europa oder Deutschland. Junge Menschen in China machen “laying flat”. In Amerika gibts “quiet quitting”.

Und wir haben noch ne relativ geringe Jugendarbeitslosigkeit.

It is so funny to me that the Saudis would invest into a creative industry that thrives on letting artists make what they think is right and then forbid them from doing that. And also expect that industry to then operate profitably, even though they just removed the basic foundation of that industry.

But there is no talking and arguing with people like that, so we can just get popcorn, watch and enjoy the Schadenfreude.

Musste er halt im Keller machen weil das wortwörtlich nicht salonfähig war bzw. ist, deswegen hat man sowas “gesellschaftlich” nicht gesehen. Gab es aber. Die ganzen Leute die z.b. die Comics oder insgesamt Spielzeug überhaupt gemacht haben, waren auch alles Menschen die daran Spaß und Interesse hatten.

I don’t think he’s hypocritical. He simply doesn’t have to deal with that negative impact he “warns” about. He is in support of using it as a tool and thinks the criticism is invalid. That’s a consistent perspective, even if I don’t agree with it.

If he used LLMs to create bug reports, but also complained about LLM written bug reports he gets, that would be hypocritical.

Everyone is talking about that and it is surprising to me that he doesn’t recognize that as two side of the same coin. Why are you rejecting the low-effort, Ai generated bug reports, Linus, isn’t AI just a productivity tool? What’s wrong? Is it not being productive?

I say “surprising”, it’s not that surprising. It’s a “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” attitude. It’s willfully excluding the impact that technology has on people, and framing the outcome as coming purely from people and the existence of the technology not affecting the outcome.

Depends on how serious you take it, team based shooters can be that.

I played “Nuclear Dawn” and “Natural Selection 2”, but they’re a bit old now. But games like “Arma” should work too. I didn’t play “Angels Fall First” but I did have my eye on it for a while.

I guess someone will recommend the milsim shooters like Squad, Squad 44, Arma (Reforger) though I fear it’s not as deep or organic (i.e. you need to be in a clan).

Well yeah, most of the time, randoms won’t appreciate the depth the game can offer and will ruin the experience. If you want “deep but organic”, that’s impossible because “organic” people will not go deep enough.

Finde ich leicht lächerlich das sie selber die Daten haben und sammeln, aber wenn jemand anders die Daten hat ist das auf einmal böse, weil denen kann man ja nicht vertrauen.

The only reason to use blender and why blender has one, is CG animation work. It would be silly to have the interface where you do exactly the same thing as in a video editor, except with the timing of animations instead of footage, but not have one for footage as well. Especially if the animation sometimes depends on when which part of the footage plays.

Rendering, exporting, importing, finding a detail is wrong, is more annoying than having it right there in the same UI.

How can I teach myself how to offer small improvements to the projects I use?

Probably more that if you want to work on graphics software, you need to understand graphics programming?

That’s unfortunately very difficult. I know of no good way to do that. With specification based software, you can at least read the specification or related standard and then it flows from that how it should work. With programs that server a different, specific use case, there is a manual, and flow to things and then “things stick out”.

If there are issues, you just read a bunch of issues and read the code that they are about and get a feeling for why the issue is an issue and why the code is the way that it is.

I remember one thing I helped with for a short while, didn’t use the python “with” file writing dialogue, because the file they were writing was massive and opening it in one place, then doing a bunch of functions that wrote and appended to the file and then closing it somewhere else, was the best solution, even though it looked unclean at first.
