It’s basically a debit card that you can use everywhere in the EU. This means you don’t have to use a credit card that almost certainly uses the American VISA/Mastercard network when traveling Europe.
You might still need a credit card for world-wide payments, but 99.9% of my payments are within the EU, so I’m looking forward to ditching US payment rails.

Denke ich mir jedes Jahr seit 5 Jahren. Und im Winter denke ich mir dann jedes Mal “Ach quatsch, für die zwei Wochen im Jahr lohnt sich das nicht”.
Es geht mir nicht einmal ums Geld, aber ich hab hier schon einen Luftreiniger wegen Allergien und einen Luftentfeuchter rumstehen. Wenn ich da ein Klimagerät dazu stelle, dann brauche ich einen eigenen Raum nur für die ganzen Geräte.
