This is the actual reason I won’t buy one. I’m willing to pay extra for a product that goes against the current and offers repairability and modularity. But the way they handled that situation makes me not want to see them ever again. I’ll stick to used Thinkpads.

Be careful with WD reds and CMR/SMR. Even though every WD Red Plus should be CMR, WD is known for selling SMR drives marketed as CMR. The whole Red Plus line exists because, before that, the WD Reds were supposed to be CMR, but they started mixing them with SMR drives. People found out and lawsuits were filed, so WD’s answer was to say that the WD Red line didn’t guarantee CMR, and people needed to pay extra for the WD Red Plus line.
WD is forever off my list of trustworthy manufacturers. But there aren’t many options, and I understand that in these times it may be difficult to pass on a good offer. Read customer reviews and, upon arrival, make sure they’re CMR.

Depends on the place. In a lot of countries, the countryside has complete coverage of 3G and 4G. There are also places with at least coax, and even fiber.
In places like the US, companies like Starlink have lobbied so that no cable is installed and no nationwide 3G/4G coverage exists (5G coverage would be near impossible due to the limitations of the technology).
Imho we should be focusing on running cable everywhere instead of trying to maintain a massive network of thousands of satellites in LEO. It’s probably cheaper in the long run, and it doesn’t ruin scientific observations or the ozone layer.

I really don’t understand Azure. Their whole marketing, at least a year ago, was that it’s cheaper than AWS. But it literally isn’t?
I did the comparison and AWS was consistently cheaper in every scenario that I tried. I may be wrong, because the pricing with these services is so purposefully made difficult to understand that both companies have released calculators just so you can make an approximation.
So far the only thing Azure has going for it are the managed Microsoft services, like Azure AD. And even those are kinda bad, when you consider after a certain company size it’s cheaper to have a sysadmin manage a local server with an AD (or whatever other service).
I also hate both Azure and AWS and don’t use them. Fuck both companies. But yeah, I don’t understand the Azure business model when there is AWS.

This user is a known troll around here. Every time someone mentions Linux, they spawn and start raging about it. It’s quite funny, tbh. Their arguments against it are so dumb that I don’t think anyone falls for them, so it’s alr, no need to argue with them.

I can already tell you, way less.
Hell, I live in spain and most people here have no issue pirating football if they want. I even know of a few bars and pubs that play pirated streams instead of paying for the official license. You can’t kill the hydra, but you can cry and hope the govt handles you the keys to the country’s DNS and gives you some cash to compensate for all those trillion € lost because of piracy.
It’s entirely AI generated. Look at the antenna. That’s a batwing antenna, but it’s missing an entire half. If you look at the original pic, it’s complete.
Edit: couldn’t find the original photo rn, and I cba to find it, but here’s another showing the complete shape of the batwing antenna:

You tend to want attention when you’re sharing an important message, and it kinda worked. A lot of people have now seen a message that wouldn’t have been seen by almost anyone had they not done that.

Microsoft’s official server binary, distributed by Microsoft themselves, has the option to not authenticate with Mojang’s servers. You don’t even need to modify it. I wouldn’t call that one piracy.
Good. Here’s hoping they end up running it into the ground. I hate that site, and I hate everyone who asks for a linkedin account to apply for jobs.
