  • I don’t know anything about the first or last items in this list, but I don’t see anything else crazy on there. “Conspiracy theory” strictly would refer to any of your list when unproven, however if you look at the use of that term in reality, it’s far more often used to describe an apeshit theory like the us government planning 9/11 or the earth being flat. Something like those, you need to ignore several obvious basic arguments against them to even entertain them.

Edit: rereading your original comment, it sounds like we are both saying the same thing really.

  • Because there are many idiots who accidentally ended up with somewhat right politics, not because they actually have a balanced worldview, but because they happened to be exposed to leftist ideas and never bothered to learn why they are more humane. So basically they’re binary-thinking extremists. If you’re not exactly aligned with them, then you’re against them.

  • Before I realized there was no point 99% of the time, I didn’t think it was a waste of time. Now if I’m feeling generous I think, at least on a platform like Lemmy, best you can hope is like 10% of the time you plant a seed for the person with a wrong idea or opinion that will eventually lead them to a better understanding. I certainly know that’s happened to me before when I was wrong. So often, people make the online exchange feel awful though. There’s a prominent attitude in many extremist/wrong viewpoints that not only are they right, everyone who thinks differently is an evil asshole.

  • I’m sorry I made assumptions and I’m definitely projecting on some level, but at the same time it may be worth considering that someone who freezes up may have some unaired feelings. I say that as someone who occasionally does have that happen (both parts). You’re right I certainly may be totally off base though and I may have read some tone that wasn’t there, which text is notorious for being vulnerable to. Either way I ought to try to make less assumptions and you can take or leave what I’m saying here (and I really don’t mean that in a shitty way, just admitting I may be completely wrong)
