Jesse Welles with another banger! I think United Health and Red are my favorite songs by him, he fills the gap whenever I get bummed listening to 60s protest music.

Hell yeah, glad to see Jesse being referenced on here by someone other than me. He’s been my favourite musician for around two years now, he’s awesome. Masks Off is my favourite album to be released in the last 20 years at least.

No thanks, and I don’t think this sort of thing will go anywhere.

The left held “cultural power” for a long time, so long that it become the default facade of what’s socially acceptable. They didn’t have to be competent politically. Leftwing politicians could tow enough of a line to stay in power not matter how much they were just elites oy acting for elites.

Now every platform is owned by right wing tech companies and media tycoons controlling what is allowed to get popular - consequently we’re seeing the reemergence of a competent left that can’t rule via cultural norms. They need to fight for popular power because culture won’t give them “close enough” wins based on culture alone.

We need competent politicians. There’s no one to win over in the culture anymore. If you’re still backing Trump, no peice of cultural work will change your mind.

Hollywood has been widely known as having a leftwing cultural facade since the end of WW2 (and the waves of migration that came with it). Likewise almost every popular musician since the 1960s counter culture has been leftwing.

Before then you had the politics of the 1950s which was traditionalist to the point that women couldn’t even wear pants. It was considered a cultural affront to the culture.

Why you’re denying all this history I don’t know. You’re probably just ignorant and decided to spit venom online rather than take a moment to ask what represents popular cultural power.

Or you just don’t think 2nd wave feminism, the civil rights movement, and hippies were leftwing because they’re not the by your nodern standards. No, the left have been in cultural hegemony for most of living memory, at least since the big cultural landmarks of the 60s and 70s.

You should check out some Pre-Code movies, Hollywood was actually even more openly left-wing in the early 30’s. Like “heroic union organizer comes to town and chases out the capitalists, gets the girl” type plots. The Hays Code was as much about preventing socialism as it was about anything else.

Yes back when they still remembered having to flee the east coast from Thomas Edison’s lawsuits and Pinkertons.

Back when radio and print media had a greater hold on the culture. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

No I didn’t say the black panthers, nor was black civil rights the only thing I mentioned as an EXAMPLE of the big cultural wins of the left in the 1960/70s.

Anyways, I don’t talk to people operating in bad faith, word twisting, and denial of the obvious. Go argue with a history book.

I believe you’ve woefully misunderstood the purpose of this kind of music. It’s not meant for fascists, or anyone sitting on the fence, or anyone living under a rock having never wondered whatever the hell is going on out from under it, it’s for us. It’s so that whenever you’re out in the world or scrolling the doom-feed and you hear someone humming that familiar tune, or playing the right notes, or saying that certain set of words in that particular order you’ve found a comrade and happen to be equipped with the perfect icebreaker.
