That may be true for you, but it’s far from universally true. I have changed jobs several times (maintaining my industry) without even moving or uprooting anything for my family. I would wager most actually have viable alternative options without moving.

and that’s despite the common knowledge that there’s a better chance at higher pay if you switch jobs. lol
Especially in tech. It’s not a coal mine, tech companies don’t prosper on their own.
I’ve moved around a few times because I didn’t like the direction the company I worked for was heading. I didn’t have a plan when I moved, but each time I got a good raise.
People don’t because it requires effort and it can be scary.
I left my job over moral objections coming up on a year ago. Hundreds of interviews later, still unemployed. I don’t regret my decision, but I’m lucky enough to have a support system. Otherwise, I’d be out of luck.
