In the 90s, you’d want to get up at 6am on a Saturday so you could see the best cartoons.

So true I miss that. Of course I was always a heavy sleeper so I missed most of the early early ones.

Back in the 1980s a pack of gum could snap on your finger like a mousetrap.

My community college friend once offered me a snake in a can, but when I opened it, it just contained nuts.

I was delighted when he showed me Annie’s Boobs, but in a totally different way than I was expecting.

            Yeah, Season 1, Episode 20: https://subslikescript.com/series/Community-1439629/season-1/episode-20-The_Science_of_Illusion

That’s okay. That’s what I love about the show. It’s fun to just watch, but there’s a lot of extra content in the details. I’ve watched every episode several times, at least once with headphones, subtitles and my full attention, and there’s no way I can remember every single reference. As long as you don’t forget Troy and Abed in the Morning, you’re good.

            Minor Community spoiler?

Troy named a capuchin monkey “Annie’s Boobs.”

I wasn’t alive in the 70s, but I remember seeing them a bunch when I was a kid in the 80s. A lot of the time they were in cans labeled “peanut brittle,” which I always thought was weird because to this day I have never once seen actual peanut brittle packaged in a can.

      It wasn’t the 90’s.

I lived through the 90’s and never once actually saw one of these. They were always in cartoons, though.

I lived through the 90s, frequently saw snakes jump out of cans of peanut brittle.

But I basically never saw any real cans of peanut brittle.

Yeah, I know I found them at my grand parents house, with my dad’s sruff from the 70s. But the last time I saw one was then, in the 90s. Everyone probably threw them out when they got discovered that way with old stuff.

But at least you could still afford them in the 90s, and even have the money to electively buy snack sized cans of nuts in the first place.

‘can of snakes’ is an old physical prank consisting of a spring loaded snake inside a can disguised as peanuts or candy.
