I don’t think they can complete with PCs anyway after they killed off physical media. Steam is a much better choice for all-digital.
Adding to that, with PCs overall, you can still stick an USB disc reader to read physical games, or whichever other physical medias that you may find.
Besides, if still going all digital, there’s DRM-free gaming, another field Sony cannot compete by their own choice.
My latest build still has an optical drive, a Blu-Ray burner specifically. There are still plenty of cases with 5 inch bays.
