Although the building houses a public library branch, this is the Obama Presidential Centre, not the Obama Presidential Library. There seems to be a lot of confusion around this.

But why the brutalist architecture though? It is this supposed to be post-modern? The words(?) engraved up there is an interesting touch.

This shit is a monument to the reestablishment of slavery in Libya & it pissed off a lot of the black community in Chicago with its placement and construction

So “leftists” don’t like liberals because they don’t understand the difference between private and public funding?

I don’t understand this, so please help me out without thinking I’m trolling. Aren’t liberals on the left? Who is the meme making fun of, the top quoter or the bottom one?

people conflate 2 kinda of liberal: liberal is the same root word as liberty, libertarian: liber, which basically means free

economic liberal (like the australian liberal party) means free from government interference in business/economy. it’s basically libertarian

socially liberal means free from government interference in your life (ie liberty; government says nothing about lgbtqi+ unless it’s about protecting you from discrimination)

in the US in particular “liberal” has tended to means socially liberal (at least in how they campaign) but neoliberal economically (pro big business)

socialism is actually diametrically opposed to economic liberalism
