There are workarounds. If it does require a Google account, set one up with fake info, then delete it once getting past the initial setup screen.
Did the fake info, but it’s impossible to remove the Google account, it seems. It only allows you to switch to another Google account. But not remove entirely.
Hm, weird. I was able to remove my temp Google account from the OS.
Was that on an Onn device?
