Politics is about getting enough voters to vote for you with a limited amount of words. Politicians do not have the power to educate, but they do make choices on what policies to focus on.
If those choices focus on dividing the working class we all lose, because some haven’t read Gender Queer that doesn’t mean policy can’t support LGBT+ it just isn’t the main focus to news.
To quote Mao:
Signaling that you are willing to compromise on trans rights is dividing the working class. Do you think trans people live off the air? Do you think they are all sitting on trust funds counting money? They are workers.
And more and more workers are realizing this. Solidarity is not some pick and choose we can let this guy get fucked if he’s unpopular enough. Solidarity is solidarity.
No one thinks trans rights should be the central guiding policy of the government, but just like anyone’s rights, it shouldn’t be something we compromise on.
