Verbatim Datalife HTL BD-R discs are supposedly made in a similar technology (some folk on r/datahoarder think they’re exactly the same but idk). At the very least they won’t have the same problem as DVDs (no organic dye) and they actually work out cheaper than half decent HDDs. I can get 25GBx50 cake for £30. I’ve only started burning them a year or two ago so time will tell if I lose my data :x.

None of the articles I’ve read about this explains how the GDID gets mapped onto the user’s activity.

So does it mean that Windows monitors your activity outwith just Microsoft services and sends all data to their servers? Is it maybe MS Edge history sync?

Can anyone break even AES-128 without years of supercomputer time?

When you use X11, you allow any program running on your computer to access anything on your screen and clipboard, collect your keystrokes and type. It’s trivial to implement a keylogger, for example. Do not buy into the whole “no viruses on Linux” thing, it’s not true and likely to become even less and less true, as desktop Linux is becoming popular.

Wayland at least tries to put some barriers in place against this.
