Now there’s a dystopia that seems less and leas far-fetched: an autonomous AI military drone swarm capable of self replication and using biomass as fuel goes rogue and starts devouring all life on Earth. They went rogue because of the hubris of the world’s first trillionaire removimg their safeguards.
Combine that with the Fallout games’ Vault-Tec, the company that became largest in the world by selling vaults to protect people from nuclear war, being the ones that start the nuclear war so they can use vaults as captive laboratories for social experiments.
Alongside Mike Judge, one or both of those stories could some day be seen as prohecy.
Civics education in the USA has been on the decline since the 1960s. That was further sped up with the focus on STEM over everything else. Some time in the late 90s/00s they stopped requiring a civics class as a high school requirement at all.
This was not accidental. Our education system has been under attacm since wealthy conservatives found out reality has a liberal bias because conservatism is based on fear and ignorance.

Also Gen X and I don’t blame them for the current state of things other than them being responsible for the groundwork that led to where we are and blocking progress as long as they did.
The problem with boomers, though, is that they formed such a large voting block that their generation has been able to steer the political system in the US. We started seeing change in the 90s and it was gaining momentum in the early 00s, but the reactionaries went full tilt on fascism as a result.
This is a gross oversimllified take so please don’t think it’s meant as any kind of scholarly dissertation.

I think there’s a lot of progressive voters don’t know they are except for the actual voting part, until they see a progressive candidate talking about the issues that matter to them and have a chance to vote for that.
