Is there something unique about hugging face that the models cannot be hosted elsewhere? I see open source as more important to Nvidia than anyone else because it sells hardware. The services’ motivations are only partially aligned with Nvidia.

That’s just Ubuntu Pro and it’s basically longer term kernel maintenance plus applies to the universe repo not just main. The only extra functionality is the ability to live patch the kernel. The base install works fine as is but some businesses require the extended support.

Our local school district hands out Dynabooks with Windows to every kid. They are so cheaply made that everyone just calls them “Chromebook”.
