Cross platform determinism
This sounds like a big selling point to me.
From what I understand, many of the existing physics engines are non-deterministic, which can make networking physics interactions in certain types of games pretty difficult.

Some anticheat games, yeah.
The vast majority of games, including most multiplayer games (and many with anticheat) work just fine on Linux today thanks to Proton, and even MacOSX is starting to catch up with GameHub.
For the few games that don’t work right now, I can easily imagine someone filling the gap with a Windows dual boot partition (or even just a PS5).
I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that Linux is closer to being what we need it to be today than Windows is. Windows has a lot of work to do, and even then it’ll never be quite as open or computer geek-friendly as Linux. I don’t see a good path forward for Windows, especially as casual users more deeper and deeper into mobile ecosystems.

But here’s the big problem: stripping all of the terrible shit out of Windows doesn’t make it better than Linux, it just makes it less bad than Windows is today.

Generally, I’m a believer in evidence over allegations, and the timing is very suspicious, but if there are actual documented conversations alluding to this behavior from years then it’s a bad look. I think Politico ought to come forward with more of the evidence so that voters can get a full picture of what was said about him and the timeline of events and statements.
But great news for Susan Collins and Donald Trump either way.

I’m surprised the drop is not a lot bigger… Who in their right mind would buy a PC right now unless they had absolutely no choice?
What’ll get really bad is when the hardware OEMs become insolvent due to high prices killing consumer demand for their products, and then we are left with few to no options for PC parts.
If nothing else, this could spell the end of the modular ATX/ITX PC.

I get what you’re saying, but it’s worth mentioning that even a Mini ITX board has a larger foot print (6.7" squared) than the Steam Machine’s absolutely tiny 6" cubic form factor. It’s really a very small device!
FWIW, I’ve always found that small form factor parts are a little more expensive too.

To be fair, i’d say the Steam Machine is relatively cost competitive with other PC pre-builds. DIY will save you money but you’ll never end up with a system that’s as small or quiet, and you have to really know what you’re doing.
The Steam Machine is not such a bad deal really, aside from the fact that every PC is a bad deal in 2026.
Get a Bazzite machine.
