  • I think i like strawberry the best out of the ones i’ve tried (i also tried deadbeef and audacious). Maybe it’s an issue with my distro’s package, but strawberry didn’t want to play CDs anymore, which is pretty much the only thing i use these players for now, cause i have my music collection hosted with navidrome and then stream it with supersonic. So now i use audacious instead. I usually like to play a CD directly and listen to it before i rip it, so that’s why i still want that functionality occasionally.

  • I’m not really using it anymore aside from it still being on my server (i simply haven’t switched it to my new distro yet), but what made me switch to it is xbps. It’s lightning fast but seems more solid than pacman, and can easily update a system that hasn’t been updated in years.

I also ended up liking the simplicity of runit, and it made me realize i just don’t like using systemd all that much. Because of that i now tend to look out for other non-systemd distros as well. A few months ago i switched my desktop and laptop over to guix.

  • Yeah unfortunately i’m also still on river-classic, so can’t be of much help regarding the new river framework and its window managers. My distro hasn’t packaged any of the new river stuff yet, and i couldn’t be bothered to do it myself. It’s hard to say how much trouble you would have setting up a compositor, cause they all have different configuration languages. Some like Sway use their own syntax, then there’s river-classic that uses shell script, or even qtile that is configured in python. I use waybar as a bar for most of my compositors (except qtile, which has its own bar and is also very good). I use Fuzzel as my launcher. I have a few themes configured for my programs that i switch with a script, which mainly consists of some sed commands that replace lines in my configs, and then reloading the programs if necessary.

  • I switched to get away from the windows telemetry that started to freak me out, but i stayed for the customization that allows me to completely make it my own, and the fact that linux doesn’t do shit in the background without me knowing it and just does what i actually want it to do. I tried using windows again in a dualboot configuration when i wanted to play gta online, plus i ended up needing hdmi 2.1, but i just couldn’t do it, it was too frustrating and annoying to use. I bought a dp to hdmi adapter and figured i’d rather give up on anti-cheat games like gta online if it means i never have to touch windows again.

  • Yeah, even though they are still PCs i think that’s also one of the advantages of the steam deck/machine. Developers can make graphics presets for that specific hardware like cyberpunk did, or you can just look online and see what graphics settings other people used to get the best experience. And yeah i also despise TAA lol, i actually hooked my ps5 up to a different monitor when i saw it ghosting cause i thought my monitor was broken or something lol. I really hate that most console games don’t give you the option to turn it off.

  • I don’t see why not, they could before couldn’t they? Even if you want to stick to the cost argument, i don’t have to care about that, cause i need to look out for myself as a consumer. If they can’t provide a way for me to own the game, i’ll simply take my business elsewhere. There’s a reason i opted to buy a disc edition ps5 instead of a digital edition, because i didn’t want to be locked to their storefront. That hasn’t changed one generation later, so if that’s the only option i’m just not going to buy it. Also, you claim physical is dead, but the situation is more nuanced when you look at the sales on a per game basis. There are definitely a lot of games that sell more digitally, but there are also first party titles like rift apart that have a 75%/25% physical/digital ratio. I think they’re definitely taking a risk alienating those first party customers by going digital only, but we’ll see what happens i guess.
