  • GL already turned when he sold over to Disney. He himself was very limiting towards the progression of Star Wars even before that. I’ll admit there are very convincing AI attempts online that IMO actually outdo what Disney has come out with since they’ve won rights, but that alone doesn’t justify using AI.

What this all boils down to is that Disney should not hold the rights. At the end of the day, these AI users are still putting down some kind of story and better dialogue which Disney does not want to follow. They’ve forgone the real essence and telling of Star Wars and have replaced it with a very Disney vibe that appeals to what Disney chooses to. They’ve left out the fans entirely.

  • What I hate about IT is that you have to wear multiple hats. Not unique to IT in the slightest, but IT often has to do weird shit that IMO should not be at all in the job description. Management for some reason is convinced IT should be ok with doing physical labor to move shit around, should be ok to be part time logistics department, should be part time project manager, should be part time janitor, should be like HR, should be sales people, should be public speaker, should be part time QA, should be part time in legal, etc etc etc. It’s fucking ridiculous.

I just want to work with the tech. Get the people out of the fucking way. All I want is the tech ffs. It’s in my fucking title.

  • If I recall correctly, this has to do with how NAND flash storage stores the data on the physical media. I think trimming in SSDs performs some kind of maintenance in this regard but it all has to do with that the cells storing the bits (which make up the data) have a limited lifetime of being written to.

After a while, it will stop being able to write to specific cells in the media and the drive eventually “fails”. I think the way the drives work is they try to actively not write to the cell as often to increase the longevity of the drive. So when it gets filled up, maybe it’s trying to calculate more with less available cells? Not sure why else.
