I think you need to be born yet again - your pod obviously was defective.

Ma Bell had several decades to gain good ROI with POTS, while the rate of technology change today shrinks that outlook to just one to two decades. Plus the most profitable high income areas to be installing fiber now often have local laws requiring much more expensive underground installations so residents don’t have to see the ugly poles with wires hanging between them.
I SO want to print this & hang it up in the office, but unfortunately I need my job.

He’s got disposable income
A key difference, especially of late.

Nailed it. The cost doesn’t really make sense when you can have two functional laptops when you upgrade, so the prior one becomes a backup, a home lab server, etc. I know they have ways of making the prior pieces functional, but again at increased cost.
Never mind the fact I just plain almost never need to repair anything on my laptop because I take care not to damage it in the first place. The last laptop I had to repair anything on was one I bought in 2005, and it wasn’t even anything essential - just a pretty piece of the exterior that became unglued.

Never said differently. Like you said, we aren’t any more special than anybody else.
There is a chance we’ll make it through this better than we were, however. Progressives have been on a roll since Mamdani won NYC mayor late last year. Hopefully that continues until there are enough in place to displace the establishment politicians and make REAL changes that work for everybody.

Not really any different than so many other countries taken over by bullies. Humans suck everywhere - it’s just a matter of when in history (or future history) you chose to look that you catch some being worse than others at that moment. Jump to another time, and the game of musical chairs will have the bullies sitting somewhere else, but still doing the same shit.

The article is probably paid propaganda by Microsoft.
I sincerely hope somebody’s filing a lawsuit to force relieving him of his position (or whatever technicality works) so somebody else can run.
