He is from a Jewish family. He keeps explaining that he’s an atheist, but people still accuse him of being a zionist. From what I’ve heard he’s mostly pragmatic about it, saying Isreal is wrong about a lot of things but also the reality is that its neighbors and Hamas keep calling for the total eradication of Jews so what do you expect them to do. He’s also called out the Netanyahu government for being corrupt. So basically a “both sides are wrong” kind of position.

The other reaction I’ve encountered is: “They just say that to get attention, they don’t actually want to do those things.”
