Not really. I would consider 2 years pretty average. Some games get abandoned in less time, some are in early access for double the time. Some games are basically complete and are only in early access for a few months. I don’t have a problem with any approach, as long as the game is getting worked on of course.

What’s the lemmy community equivalent to lost redditors? Or maybe just the one for spammy bullshit. Not sure. If OP is just lost, I’d love to hear how they got here and thought this was related to self hosting.

This is how it was where I grew up in Washington State. We were not rural enough for our neighborhoods to qualify for grants, but not densely populated enough for it to be financially worth it to lay cable. I moved out in 2018, where the best options were still dial up or conventional sattelite.
I did discover that by voiding Cricket Wireless’ TOS you could use your BYOD as a hotspot with unlimited data and you’d just have to change sims/numbers every few months when they caught on. Of course now Starlink and T-Mobile home internet exist instead and hey, maybe they laid cable in the past 8 years, it’s possible.

Hers did too without any extra software, she was trying to use the wrong pen from a different tablet.

My partner is the same way roughly. Biggest issue she’s had was her drawing tablet pen not working. Turned out she was using the wrong pen for that tablet, the correct pen worked flawlessly. An hour of my life troubleshooting I can’t get back haha.
There have been a few games that have had issues, and the updates aren’t the most intuitive on Kubuntu, but she did manage the last update just fine on her own without me even being home, so that’s good.

Depends on the hardware, on some hardware configs it should work pretty well, from what I understand, but you’ll miss our on a few steam machine exclusive features.

While I agree, that’s a lot to ask of a PC gamer, let alone a console gamer. Maybe if SteamOS starts supporting hardware better, that could be a good distro we could point console gamers towards.
I don’t need a raw video older than a day after the video is finished. I also don’t need TBs of legally acquired content. I also don’t need TBs of archived YouTube videos. I don’t really need a NAS. I don’t need a phone. We don’t really need any of this tech stuff actually.
To answer your question more seriously, they’re nice to have sometimes, instead of having to re-edit finished videos to make a compilation or something. I’m also hoping that maybe I’ll see some success some day and be able to hire a more skilled editor (or even just me from the future with improved skills) to turn old media into feature-length films or just better versions of what I released. I dunno. It’s data hoarding, but when I do want it, it’s super nice to have.
I’ve also seen multiple professional creators talk about regretting not keeping the original footage from their old videos, so I’m not making that mistake. It’s just nice to have it if you ever do want it, and I have the skills to archive it myself on the cheap, as compared to paying something like BackBlaze $7/TB/mo.
Just checked and my average video this year is currently at 400GB, so that’s $4*2 for redundancy, so $8 per week aka $35/mo. If it were in BackBlaze, my subscription fee would go up by $12 per month forever, and it’d currently be at $630/mo, with zero redundancy. When I frame it like that, I’d be a fool not to do it!

I’m not a teacher, but I dunno if that’s the right response to someone cheating. It is going to be his problem in the future, but as a teacher, isn’t it her job to teach the kid that that’s not OK? Sorta depends on the age, I suppose, but I’d definitely give the kid a 0% instead of a C.
I create videos, and back up all of my raw footage. I make weekly videos, and the size ranges from 50GB up to 500GB or more. I have 105TB available, 90TB used at the moment. I also have a fully redundant set of another 105TB. My employer has unfortunately made it very easy to justify hoarding, as they’ll sell me reputable used commercial drives for $10/TB.
The video archives are 53TB
TubeArchivist is 19TB
Legally acquired movies and TV is 10TB
Immich is 2TB
Those are the main users of data. A bunch of other folders are using anywhere from a gig to 500GB, but those are basically rounding errors.
I’ve used it for when I remember a cool place I’ve been, but can’t pinpoint the exact location, like a campsite or something. It’s the type of thing that I rarely use, but when I need it, it’s invaluable.

Yeah, I’m definitely in the same boat. Would I love a Steam Machine? Sure. For $1050 can I continue plugging the HDMI from my desktop into the TV? Also very much yes.

I’m also glad I got the first Gen SteamDeck for launch pricing but it’s in just about zero ways the same as a Steam Machine, unless you just mean they’re both PCs running SteamOS, as that’s about all they have in common.

Airbags are definitely a part of the can bus these days, they trigger based off of a number of inputs like the gyro, speed, acceleration, etc. I suppose they could just put in a seperate, secure system for the airbags that cannot be tampered with.

I would die for a FOSS car. The main barrier for that is airbags, people could just disable them, which wouldn’t be good or fair to their passengers or future owners. I also worry about other dumb stuff people would do with a foss car. Of course, I still want one.
Symphonium and Tempest are both android clients that support Navidrome and all the features you mentioned (if I’m reading your comment correctly)
