As Gabe said, piracy is’nt a pricing issue, it’s a service issue. This problem has been addressed before and it will be again, if need be.

I already addressed that. Steam has DRM, because Steam wouldn’t exist without it, and the physical copies publishers sold instead would still have DRM. There are DRM-free games on Steam - they don’t require publishers to use it. Direct your ire where it belongs.

I would think that the ESA would be happy for free support of their opinion. Unfortunately, the law is on their side. If you don’t like it, you have two options: try to change it or pretend it isnt true. One is easier, and I suspect both are about as likely to change things.

You don’t own any software! All software is licensed, yes, even FOSS software. The only software you own in a traditional sense is public domain which not only is a vanishingly small portion of software made, but is also a category that is difficult or impossible for software to be made a part of, depending on the laws in your country.
This is no different for Steam vs. anywhere else you can buy games, even with physical copies. The only benefit of physical copies is that it’s much harder to remove access to those games after you purchase the license, unless there is online activation or DRM.
Edit: I should clarify the only other software you own is the software you create or paid to have created. Then you can license its use for others, or not, as you choose. So MS owns Windows, and I own some small number of applications I’ve created, and other companies or individuals own the software they produced. But none of that has any bearing on games on Steam or anywhere else where you’re spending money to get access to a copy of a game.

When a server is down, they want to find you. When they want to pass a law which you will vote against, how hard do you think they’re trying?

Not Banks Orbitals, which are amazing and a fair way into the future, but orbital rings. They’re another launch system like space elevators, but have some advantages and drawbacks.

If you like space elevators you’ll love orbital rings. Literal train into the sky!

Well, a suborbital flight is less than an hour to anywhere. That absolutely has its advantages if cost and efficiency aren’t factors, but the payload would still have to be prepared and loaded. At that point, it just sounds like a way to compensate for bad logistics. It could be legitimately useful for emergency/surprise operations, but those also aren’t something you want to build your overall strategy around.

I was in an accident, knew it was going to happen, and braced myself. When it was all over, there was a loud noise, and I realized my foot was braced on the accelerator. Since the car had started to roll when I braced myself, this had little bearing on the accident. Also, this driver wasn’t in a state where he was bracing for an accident, but he may have jammed his foot on the pedal when he woke up.

If you make it fast enough it will stick around for a while. “A while” in planetary terms can be a few hundred thousand or million years. So it’s possible you could produce sufficient atmosphere to make it breathable, and it would remain so for longer than human civilization up to now. Of course, by possible, I mean with the right tools and the resources to support that, which would be substantial. Feel free to find out how many comets you would have to impact into Mars to get that.

Looks like Arc has learned something since then, and it reduces your odds of matching with them but doesn’t completely remove the possibility. I think I’ll keep blocking people I don’t want to play with. Frankly, it’s not surprising that game developers have learned from the mistakes made before, and there are certainly more nuanced options than forcing people to play with people they don’t want to or having to wait hours to match.

That’s your choice, and I’ve met a couple people like that, but you could have just blocked them and moved on. I’ve also had a rando save my stupid ass twice in one raid because I kind of suck at extraction shooters.
In the end, I’ve had about as many meetings where I was ganked as where people just randomly helped me, and a whole lot more where we both said hi and went on our way.

Likewise. I’ve been ganked a number of times, I just block them and move on. Probably 10 player kills in the last 4 months or less? The aggression ranking in matchmaking really seems to help. I’ve yet to get the achievement for player kills, and I’ve seen an uptick when player kills are linked to feats, but overall most of the people I see are helpful and not trying to loot steal or kill you. I hope the PVP players keep being put in matches with each other and are enjoying themselves somewhere I’m not present.
And his point will still stand.
