I used to think we needed to add 4 more seats to SCOTUS, but I no longer believe that. Now I believe we should add 20 seats, with rolling term limits. SCOTUS shouldn’t be so small that one bad faith president can manipulate the system and negatively affect policy for the next century.

If we could focus our schools on one single thing, it would be Critical Thinking Skills. It’s how humans are supposed to think, but it has to be taught, and it has to be practiced. Everything else can be looked up on Google, but Critical Thinking Skills require active intervention to learn. Critical Thinking Skills allow us to immediately recognize and reject nonsense like propaganda and scams, and make proper decision based on facts, not vibes.
Those who don’t have Critical Thinking Skills adopt other chaotic methods of thinking, like Faith-Based Thinking, where you choose to believe anything an accepted authority tells you, no matter how outlandish. Or they embrace conspiracy theories, or fall prey to cults, like Scientology, Mormons, or MAGA.
Conservatives are actively fighting the teaching of Critical Thinking Skills, claiming it encourages children to challenge/ defy authority figures, which is a healthy thing in a healthy society. The real reason is that it teaches people how to recognize their insidious propaganda, which is so vitally important to MAGA success. If people start seeing that propaganda for what it really is, Conservatism is doomed.

Exactly, if we remember correctly, the announcement of this cease-fire was the night of his big fight on the lawn, and he was desperate to make some big announcement. I’m sure the announcement of a cease-fire came as a huge surprise the them.
It was a hoax from the beginning, destined to not succeed, and here we are.

One GOP Senator even tells NBC: “He’s a bully, and he’s f------ things up as fast as he can.”
Yeah, we know, we warned you MAGA dickheads about this over and over, and you still elected him twice. You have earned every bit of retribution that is barreling at you like freight train.
THAT’S what they are afraid of. They know the recoil when the Dems take over is going to be brutal in so many ways. The next Democratic Congress is not going to be the same lugubrious Biden Congress, this one is going to turn every committee into an investigative operation, and start digging for crime, and they’re going to find a LOT.
Trump can try pardoning them, but everybody knows that innocent people don’t need pardons, so anyone who gets one, will END their political career, and they will still be under scrutiny after they leave office, and no more pardons are available. They are criminals at heart, they will commit more crime, and they will meet their punishment then.

Our family’s policy is that we don’t start a Netflix show until it has run its course and is over. We’ve had too many disappointments watching a show we like, only to have it get abruptly cancelled. There are too many other things to watch that won’t pull the rug out from under us.
I’m sure Netflix hates this, but it’s their own fault. We are only responding to their irresponsible programming nonsense.

Look at these cowardly losers. They wanted to murder people for wearing masks to keep from spreading a deadly plague, but today they are too cowardly to show their faces at an event where they are the heroes. That’s how you know that even they understand that what they’re doing is wrong, and they want to hide their identity in case they eventually lose, and then have to answer for their treason.
Maybe that’s the original, but it wasn’t the format I first saw it on Reddit.
No, it’s your fault for accepting it, and assuming they will do nothing the next time, and allowing them to do nothing with no consequences.
Now they are seeing consequences. A 15 term do-nothing Rep was just beaten in the primaries by a KID! And there is a lot more of that going on, and it has become apparent to EVERYONE that we are on a new path.
You can be part of the old, weak, cowardly Democratic establishment, and help them crush this new trend, or you can get on board and give it more fuel.
If you don’t, then yeah, whatever bad happens is your fault.

Great clarification. I had moved by 2020, so I wasn’t there for that one, but as you outlined, that was a unique incident, not caused by the river being so polluted that it could actually BURN!. And most people don’t know that that last big burn was only the latest in a long series of river fires.
I remember driving past the area of The Flats where the factories were, and EVERYTHING was black, the buildings, the equipment, the very ground. There was nothing green at all. It looked like another planet.

The Cuyahoga River hasn’t caught fire in over 50 years. That was because of all the factories along the river that dumped their pollution in it for decades.
But that ended years ago, when all those factories went out of business, and Cleveland became the economically and culturally stagnant shithole that I grew up in.
I’ve been making the comparison to the first synthesizer in 1897. It was so huge, that it took up the basement of an entire city block in NYC. It was enormous, and relatively useless but it worked…technically. But 60 years of development later, and it can be put in a suitcase and carried around.
I see data centers and AI the same way. Sure, we can technically do it, but it’s big, unwieldy, and wasteful. It clearly isn’t ready for prime time.
Go back to the drawing board, address the real problems, including regulations, and get back to us in a decade or two, when they’ve figured out how to do this properly. Because right now it’s a monstrosity that’s more of a curiosity than an useful product.
