Using her background in nonprofit communications, she built an interactive Google Map titled, “Who is Profiting from ICE?” It plots the contractors across the country who work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to carry out the Trump administration’s deportation policies.

The U.S. government found her website, too – and labeled it a tool for domestic terrorism, according to a secret intelligence bulletin obtained by USA TODAY. It’s the latest example of the Trump administration cracking down on dissent it says could veer into political violence.

    I’m sorry but why are activists so stupid? This is going to be taken down by Google. I hope they have backed up the data somewhere else.

    My local EFF org, who should know better than anyone the problems it creates, only posts their meetings on Meetup.

      You live in a bubble of information and do not yet understand that most activists are only one step above the average non-techy citizen. Significant portions don’t even know what Signal is, much less GrapheneOS or self-hosting. No one is coming to save you - you must be the one to do the education in your area.

        You don’t think the Electronic Frontier Foundation understands the problems of closed third-party platforms?

        Honestly any activist organization that doesn’t understand how keeping their members’ contact info and other details private is important is simply bad at their job (which is most of them). Our current government is using this information to directly target and harass individuals, which was always a given, given enough time in any country.

        No one is coming to save you - you must be the one to do the education in your area.

        I have contacted them about this. They don’t care. I’m not going to start up a redundant org, as that would neither empower the movement nor protect any of those existing members.

          You would be surprised how little even members of the EFF understand technology. The broader organization and the people writing their articles may understand, but the well-meaning activists that make up their membership may be completely uninformed - and unaware that they are uninformed, or may believe that the trade-off of broader outreach or ease of use for potential new members is worth, ironically, the breach of privacy and security.
