seeking solutions to overcrowded prison systems
That’s how this always goes:
- underfunding
- claims that the underfunded institution doesn’t do its job
- outsourcing
I see a different solution at point 1. Especially since outsourcing often isn’t cheaper than better funding - the only difference is that lawmakers can profit from it.
Oh and there’s the fucking conservative-to-rightwing-populist-to-outright-nazi pipeline:
“Overcrowded” sounds like there’s too many criminals, or at least it can easily be spun into that, when maybe it just means that the prisons aren’t adequate anymore, as well as the whole system of punishment.
