That’s it. Lot of people with different distros in the discord have been able to play with little to no issue.

Proton GE 11-3 and experimental seem to be the top recommended.

    How’s the actual game itself?

I just picked up Hell Let Loose: Vietnam and I can’t remember the last time I was so disappointed in an FPS release

I’m enjoying it a lot. It feels like an extraction shooter with no extracting and unlimited respawning.

Matches take about an hour or so to finish. Vehicle mechanics are pretty stiff but the main loop is great.

The only thing kinda miserable are dealing so many snipers. Everyone just camps and shoots from a mile away. I’m more of a run and gun type.

The class xp mechanic is nice. You can decide to run as different setup depending which xp tree you want to tackle.

Interesting about the snipers comment. Does the game limit the amount of snipers per team? Or is it more like BF1 for example where everyone can be a sniper if they want?

There are no in-game classes, you just buy whatever weapons, equipment and vehicles you want. The only soft limit is the cost of items, and I assume that’s something they’re going to continue adjusting. The different classes only exists out of game, where you have different XP tracks. I.e. to unlock more sniper weapons and equipment you have to do sniper-y stuff while playing first.

At least the early assault rifles which I had access to in the beta were pretty crap at range, so IMO it has less of the “everybody is a sniper” feeling of HLL :D I think any semi-realistic game with a huge map tends to naturally favour sniping to some degree.

I’m liking it a lot. It’s in between ARMA and Battlefield in terms of realism, which is perfect for me. Last game I played someone built a whole forward operation base for us, was very cool.

That’s unfortunate about Hell Let Loose, I was meaning to check that out but seems like I didn’t miss anything.

In between ARMA and Battlefield has been HLL niche for a long time, such a shame Vietnam kind of sucks. But also hence why I’m interested in Wardogs.

If you haven’t played the original HLL, personally I think that is definitely worth a shot for an “older” combat experience
