Because they’re evil?
I’m not even joking: at this point, they’re not even pretending to follow a political logic anymore. They’re simply pursuing whatever hurts others for the sheer joy of it. I honestly can’t find any other reason for anything they do.
I’m not sure conservatives were ever really different. Might be they just don’t bother with the fig leaves any more since some of them might be pinning their hopes on cancelling democracy.
