      I pity the Israelis. They’ve had quite good governments, but with Netanyahu, they have a de facto dictator and propaganda is up and fairness is out of the window.

        Don’t, Netanyahu’s policies are popular in Israel, so are Ben Givir’s. They are simply the figureheads of a broadly endorsed program of Palestinian Genocide across Israeli society, that is what makes Israel so scary.

          According to a political poll conducted in Israel on July 12, 2026,

          Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party would have won 24 of the Knesset’s 120 seats if an election had been held that day. That was down four seats from a similar poll in March, when Likud was projected to win 28 seats. [In the parliamentary election of November 2022, Likud won 32 seatst.]

          As of March 2025,

          a majority of Israelis held an unfavorable opinion of their Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. A year prior, Netanyahu’s approval rating slumped to 41 percent, the lowest in over a decade. 58 percent of Israeli adults did not approve of him at that time. This represented a significant loss of support since the politician’s peak popularity in 2015. Since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, 2023, the Prime Minister has faced a growing disapproval and was losing ground in the polls.

          My personal experience with the Near East is very limited, I just know a handful of migrants living in Europe of either Palestinian or Israeli origin (one of them is half-Palestinian, half-Jew). Literally all of them reject Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir, and most other government officials in Israel and the wider region, but they are friends with people of the other ethnicity.

          All they want is a normal life for themselves and the people in the region, they say.

            STOP, you are conflating the popularity of politicians and their parties with the popularity of their policies.

            My point is the policies of Netanyahu, Ben Givir and others are popular in Israeli society, to an extremely concerning degree, if anything Israeli society seems to see putting the blame squarely on figures like Netanyahu and Ben Givir as an easy way to get out of still broadly endorsing the policies of both without having to grapple with the deeper existential crisis of their own failing to extend a basic humanity to Palestinians.

            Israeli’s according to the polling don’t have a problem with the goal of pursuing the extermination of Palestinians, they just don’t like how the current people in charge are going about it and how bad it is making them look globally.

            There is no more foreboding sign of how sick a society has become than the presence of an overpowering obsession with replacing problematic rightwing fascist leaders with other fascist rightwing leaders to solve problems that arise from pursuing rightwing fascist policies.

            There is no functional leftwing in Israel, they are all in jail or have been beaten and intimidated into silence and all that remains is a hopeless circus of fascist rightwing leaders clamoring to replace the current fascist rightwing leaders without any discussion about changing the actual fascist policies.

            With elections looming in October, Israel’s right wing is turning the push to rebuild Jewish settlements in Gaza into a central issue of their campaign.

            It is part of a broader effort to push Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reverse the 2005 disengagement from the coastal enclave that saw Israel unilaterally uproot its settlements.

            On Sunday, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich – two key far-right members of Netanyahu’s government – led thousands of Israeli settlers and activists to the Gaza perimeter demanding the reestablishment of three settlements in northern Gaza: Nisanit, Dugit and Elei Sinai. Organized by the hardline Nachala settler movement, the demonstration included senior government ministers and lawmakers. The demonstration is more than just a political stunt meant to secure right-wing votes. Expanding settlements in the occupied West Bank and rebuilding settlements in Gaza are an open dream of Israel’s far-right, and they see the current moment in time with Israel occupying more than half of Gaza as a prime opportunity to pressure Netanyahu to advance their agenda.

            Compared to the same survey a year ago, the results of this poll indicated a modest continuation of the Jewish Israeli public’s rightward shift, with 66% of Jewish respondents identifying as on the right, compared to 63% in July 2025.

            Meanwhile, the share of Jewish voters who identified as “exactly in the center” grew from 10% in July 2025 to 13% in July 2026, while the share of those who identified as on the left shrank from 22% a year ago to just 19% this time.

            Strikingly, only 3% of Jewish respondents this year said they identified as on the left. None, or a negligible number, identified as “far left.”

            Among Arab respondents, about half identified as on the left, similar to last year, while the share of Arab voters who said they couldn’t find any place for themselves on the political map went down from 21% last year to 15% this time.

            Given the context of the ongoing, roaring Palestinian Genocide, these polling statistics indisputably indicate Israeli society has descended deeply into embracing Genocide and violence, i.e. Israel has become a fascist society not just a society ruled by fascism.

        I pity the Israelis.

        I don’t. Israel is an excellent case study in how you can’t do half a fascism; you either make some effort to respect others’ human rights or you sink down the ultranationalism hellhole and get a Netanyahu. A democracy based on securing lebensraum for the ubermensch is just not how the world works.

      Jpost definitely, Israel Times deserves some nuance. It’s definitely Zionist as hell, but it follows a strain of liberal (still fascist) Zionism that’s sometimes capable of tolerating dissent.
