California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) will introduce new legislation making ballot seizure before they are counted and certified by a state or county official a felony. In a July 4 recorded speech, Newsom was not shy about who the law targets.
“We will not be his victims,” Newsom said. “We will be the wall he cannot get past, because we believe that once an election is decided, the winner governs for everyone. That’s the architecture of American liberty.”
The “he” refers to President Donald Trump, who has spearheaded a movement of election skepticism through repeated — and repeatedly proven false — claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged.
Yeah! Whoever has the most money and controls the media wins, as it should be in a democracy!
I was going to ask how it isn’t already, but the last decade has proven that America’s justice system is basically swiss cheese.
We are finding out that a lot of American politics are based on trust that the person elevated to the highest office in the land by the people isn’t a rapist and lifelong kleptomaniac.
I suspect that there are probably a number of countries in the world who made the folly of expecting their leaders were, in the smallest sense, trustworthy.
The republicans in congress could stop this at any time. They are all complicit.
The Democrats could do quite a bit more than hand-wringing as well.
Ok but everything Trump does is illegal. Nobody enforces the laws on the books so what is one more law going to do?
This is at the state level. Trump and the federal government can’t do shit about state charges. Unless of course your last name is Polis, you’re the Governor of Colorado, and you like sucking Trump’s dick for funsies, then you’ll get on your knees for Trump. California ain’t doing that.
