The Trump administration tries to micromanage the domestic politics of American allies.
America has no allies left. There are former allies, and realpolitik dependence and even co-dependence. Not the same as an ally. No one trusts the US for anything anymore and everyone is rebuilding dependencies to omit the US. 80 years isn’t undone in a day, but the faith in continuing what was, was undone in one year.
The US will never recover from this.
Perfect opportunity to unite more against the US. This won’t go away with a next US president.
I’m not sure. Maybe next Prez doesn’t like that much backwardness, and isolation from the civilized world.
Changes nothing. You can’t deal with a country in good faith if you are only one election away from them abandoning agreements, principles, the rule of law and they switch from ally and partner to direct threat.
A good president in the next election would be a welcome change and could help minimize the fallout for everyone, but the fundamentals of the world’s reorientation away from the US won’t be fundamentally affected by it. Trust is earned slowly and burnt in an instant. The US is not a reliable partner anymore, if ever. They will need 50 years of rock steady reliability before anyone ever dares trust them again like we did in the past.
Exactly, trust call only be rebuilt with a revised constitution that guarantees this can never happen again. Any of it. Pardons included.
Always has, but now it’s finally more in the open because the current US regime has the shared brain power of a guppy.
Try to imagine how people of the global South and Southwest Asia may feel.
If the writers of “Love Actually” figured it out maybe it was not that concealed.
