Nah I think moving closer to work is actually a solution. Unless your job could happen remotely, in which case it’s a band-aid for a solution the company is refusing to provide.
And uh, cooking at home should be the default anyway? Is it not for some people? The price difference is so big, it’s never made sense to see eating outside or ordering delivery as anything other than a treat to yourself.
In terms of overall economic cost, more centralized cooking can easily be more cost-effective. In some regions in the world, it’s normal not to cook at home and to instead buy food cheaply from street vendors and such. But obviously this requires the local infrastructure to be geared towards that.
