I saw various large YouTube videos struggling to make sense of and fight against AI slop videos that are stealing their style and art design. They’re right to be outraged, but I soon thought to myself “this is how the system works”. Art doesn’t mean anything on a societal level. There is absolutely nothing that is preserved, cherished or safe if it can make profit in a late stage capitalistic world. There is no more actual law to protect creators, because law has been sold to the highest bidders. There is no fight against the law, because the law fights you back by design, with an additive of corruption. The real issue in my mind is that money is always worth more than art, and in this system it always will be. Art only was safe in the past by the flimsy laws protecting it which are now not being enforced or have vanished. So now, in this era of unending slop, we’re seeing the balance shift entirely away from art. It’s arguable if art ever did have a true standing, but undoubtedly it has gotten worse.
There is no motivation for making art, because money is the motivator. It’s a matter of what matters in life, and humanity seems hopelessly consumed by making money.
