Shit country tbh. You might be able to get a cheap stock android device for your ID and your “actual” device keeps living the good life on a custom rom. Idk how feasible that is for your lifestyle tho.

Yeah, that’s roughly what I thought, in which case switching to graphene (or any other custom rom) would completely “release” you from the proprietary grasp of google and their genius ideas. Because even if they add this 24hr lockdown in the AOSP-Project, graphene could rather easiely revert that change in their fork.

I might have misunderstood that all those years, but custom roms like graphene or lineage all use the AOSP source to build “their” stuff on top. Android itself is all the proprietary shit google adds and probably bunch of proprietary firmware drivers, which isn’t relevant in the slightest if you switch to a supported device.

If your country forces you on a locked down OS for ID requirements, something is wrong entirely. You should absolutely make some noise against that and urge them to allow custom OS. That’s a political issue, not a technical.

at the very least the people who brag in reviews about finishing a game and liking it, should have their refund denied or overturned
Which means the death of the “no questions asked” refund policy. That’s my entire point.
I’d probably pickle them all. But then again, I love pickles.
If you don’t love pickles, probably not a good idea.

Well, the dev is absolutely right. It’s really unfortunate for him that some trash subhuman scum abuses it in such a way, but overall I’d still argue that the refund policy benefits people more than it harms.
I think the only sensible solution for devs would be to make games that are longer than 2 hours. Add some additional content that drags the game across that line. You already got a working game - take another month, add some more content.

unless devs are scummy and do it after one achievement
Well guess what will happen.
This is something which will never have a solution that makes both players and devs happy. Someone always gets shafted.

I’m pretty sure that custom roms will remove that 24hr wait period from their binaries. Android is still open source and removing a check isn’t going to be very hard for them.
The tech ecosystem is as open as you can. Use linux. Use SearxNG. Use graphene or other custom roms. There’s options out there, you just have to start adopting them instead of just complaining online about having no choice.

No, but that was the time when every tech company could basically generate money out of big userbases and empty promises. If you don’t have to worry about making money, you don’t have to enshittify something. Companies like uber would not exist in todays market because investors wouldn’t subsidize that company for years until it finally turns a profit. Hell, I think uber just turned profitable in early 2024, so 11 years of losses, and I highly doubt that in todays market, investors will subsidize companies like OpenAI for 11 years.

that was a moronic thing to say at the time
I assume he wasn’t genuinely thinking that, but rather didn’t want to burn any bridges with microsoft. That company is so big that you never know when you might come across it in the tech space.
This might possibly the dumbest thing I’ve read today. Maybe even this entire week.
That’s unfortunate, but not surprising. Luckily, the world works without google.
Get SearxNG and you’ll never need another search engine.
