They don’t like it when you ask them for parts lists. They also don’t like it when you tell them you don’t like tempered glass case panels because you worry about them breaking. :P

It pains me that people are like that. Working with computer hardware really isn’t that scary unless you’re cracking open a CRT monitor or a power supply for whatever reason.

I’d like to think that more people would be able to work with computer hardware if they simply set aside their fears and preconceptions and were willing to learn a few things, but like I said before, there are plenty of people who see computers as “magic boxes”.

The people downvoting this don’t understand how intimidating building and upgrading PCs is to the average person. Like seriously, there’s a reason prebuilts exist. Building a PC may seem easy if you’re used to doing it, but most people aren’t.

A lot of people see a PC as this magic box that runs games and other programs, and they don’t dare open it up for fear of breaking something. Heck, a lot of people don’t even understand that an operating system is just a piece of software that can be swapped out for other software, and not an integral part of the system they’re using.

I don’t bother with Steam games that use third party launchers. Too much of a hassle on Linux. I learned that the hard way a few years ago when I grabbed Titanfall 2, after people insisted that it ran well in Linux.

People keep downvoting you, but you speak the truth. GOG’s Linux support is a joke. If they were serious about Linux, they would’ve released an official version of Galaxy for it by now.

I wouldn’t suggest Boxes for gaming. Even if it could do a GPU passthrough, I don’t think current anticheat games, like what OP wants to run, play well with that.

The biggest problem with Haiku is that it has practically no security. It runs everything as root, it doesn’t have user accounts, and the only password it supports is for a screensaver screen locker. I think it has potential, but its security model is completely unacceptable for an online OS in 2026.

Consoles are the rich man’s platform these days. If you have a bit of technical know-how, it’s not hard to find a cheap old PC and get some games running on it.
