  • It’s more of a joke on the people voting for the party and not the party line itself. The party means it

Kinda the classic conservative thing of not seeing a problem until it effects them personally. Or at least a variation.

The US is seeing the same thing, spouses voting for Trump then seeing their illegal/asylum seeking husband/wife deported and being shocked because “they were doing it right, or they were good not a problem”

    The cognitive dissonance is amazing

  • What other ways are people interpreting this?

If you mean just war medals in general it depends on the context. If you get a medal say as a Union soldier during the Civil War for successfully repeling a Confederate assault that’s inherently a good thing to have done, but war is messy so yes it involves killing unfortunately.

Getting injured as an allied soldier on D-Day is a good reason to get a medal.

Getting a medal while fighting to defend Ukraine from it’s invasion is also good.

When people are fighting for a just cause its okay to be rewarded for their service.

Being decorated by any of the opposing nations in these conflicts would ultimately by bad. Even if the actions by the soldier was the same.

But worst of all being given a medal for a massacre of women and children is just indefensible

Admittedly, if you want to come at it from an absolutely pacifist worldview about giving people medals for killing, I can’t disagree or refute that stance.

  • Racists and fascists should be silenced.

I’m sorry they are upset that they saw a minority or that they overheard people speaking a foreign language while being brown. They can get over themselves

You don’t need to pamper these beliefs. You can lead the voters to the actual cause of the issue without allowing them to empower fascists.

Usually the real issue is economic. Lack of housing, low wages, failing Healthcare. Those can be addressed. You don’t have to allow the group trying to blame poor minority groups a seat at the table. You address the real issues

  • I’m aware, you don’t see how one ingrained into that group could be convinced by his buddies to swap over to the private sector to “just do the same thing for more money”. Clearly they rely on recruiting from the military because of its indoctrination practices.

Basically I see a path where one can do terrible things when pressured or indoctrination by a group. They leave the group and learn what they did was wrong. Which was demonstrated by his new views.

The issue is this rape occurred well after that and there’s no outside force teaching him that’s okay like the military did with violence.

I gotta give you props, usually I begrudgingly hop on the blue no matter who train, but I guess I do have some standards after all. Apparently I’m not willing to vote for rapists.

I hope I’m wrong and this is all exposed as a plot to tank him, because if that happens then he’ll likely have an easy victory. But the evidence so far is pretty damning.

  • I doubt you’d understand, but I full recognize that the military industrial complex is designed to prey on underprivileged youths or those with misplaced patriotism to joining. From their you are isolated and indoctrinated. Moving past that indoctrination and regretting what you did, as he’s stated, shows growth and character development.

Rape is just rape. Not indoctrination or anything like that. Completely of his own volition. Speaks volumes

If you told he raped someone during his military or mercenary time I’d feel the same way

The fact that I even have to say that is mind boggling. This nation is beyond fucked
